William “Bill” Mayville retired from the United States Army as a Lieutenant General with 36 years of service. During his career he served in multiple joint and combined senior leader positions and commanded forces at multi-levels in combat to include Commanding General of the First Infantry Division, “The Big Red One.”
Bill served in numerous key positions in the Pentagon while his final assignment was as Vice Commander for U.S. Cyber Command. It that position he oversaw our nation’s offensive and defensive cyber operations, and supervised the expansion of the nation’s newest combatant command by overseeing the growth of a 6,200 cyber security workforce and a multi-million-dollar research and acquisition enterprise.
Within his senior executive leadership postings to The Joint Staff he managed the global disposition of U.S. military forces and supervised the National Military Command Center which directs all U.S. special operations, nuclear, cyber, and strategic reconnaissance operations worldwide.
A graduate of the United States Military Academy with master’s degrees from Georgia Tech and the Naval War College, Bill has served as a guest lecturer at Yale University, and participates as a public speaker and panel expert for national security issues with prominent think tanks.
