Andy Brown retired from the U.S. Navy following a 37-year military career steeped in logistics and the business side of running the military. This culminated with his final assignment as the Director of Logistics for the Joint Staff. Now serving as the President and CEO of the National Defense Transportation Association, his senior leadership and business acumen continues to find data driven solutions impacting on our nation’s industrial base, the security of supply chains, global logistics and transportation networks (commercial and military sealift, air passenger, air cargo, rail, trucking).
With exceptional depth regarding joint military operations as reflected by tours of duty on The Joint Staff, U.S. Transportation Command (TRANSCOM) and U.S. European Command (EUCOM), Andy supported logistical efforts for Operation Odyssey Dawn, Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, Operation Nimble Archer and Operation Southern Watch. He is an expert in aircraft carrier and naval aviation logistics, having had oversight responsibilities at the Fleet and Type Commander levels. These significant senior staff and command postings provide him with tremendous insight into U.S. whole of government, NATO, Levant and other coalition networks.
Andy has a depth of knowledge in global logistics, supply chain, acquisition/contracting/program management, working capital funds and process improvement not found in many executive leaders. Likewise, given his TRANSCOM and Joint Staff experience, he is skilled in Operation Plan (OPLAN) development and joint exercises across all Combatant Commands. Inasmuch as Logistics is often “fairy dusted,” he brings to bear the assessment of risk to mission and insights into logistical feasibility. He always says, “What is the one thing a logistician does not want to run out of?” His answer: Options!
